Lapetus Bio

Well, took me a while to get to posting here, but better late then never. Hello all, you can call me lap. Like Hitch, I am a veteran of wars and have many scars to prove it. I am a Marine Force Recon, the guys that make the SEALS look like boyscouts. I was a different person then. No patience and quick to settle things with violence. I am also a 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, though I havent trained in years.

After high school, I went to USC on a full scholarship for football, where I played for 4 years. I tried out for several NFL teams, but didnt make the cut. So I joined the Marines, like my father and his father. I loved my job, maybe too much at times. My sergeant gave me the name Lapetus (a titan in homers illiad), because he said I fought like a titan. I was crazy, but like I said, I am a different person now.

I recently sold my company and retired. I was fotunate in that regard, my uncle left me his business. I am currently running a non-profit organization that is intended to set standards in the mold industry, I dont consider this a job though, more of a hobby. I also am working with congress to pass a program that will put 18,000 vets to work and help maintain forclosed homes. The program will pay for itself in the long run and provide billions of dollars of taxable income annually. The program has been passed by a senate commitee and is in the hands of Obama.

I am 31 and life has tought me some lessons that I wont forget and that I will share with you all:

1. Life is short. I believe this life is all you get, make it count. Help people if you can. Embrace life and share it with as many people as you can.
   
   
2. We have it good. Your worst day is better then a lot of peoples best days. The simple things we take for granted are what makes life worth living. The love of family, the taste of good food and the ability to play video games. I assure you, many people dont have these luxuries. Be thankful for what you do have.
   
   
3. Dont let the little things get you down. There are real issues in the world, like war, starvation and suffering that most of you can not even imagine. It can always be worse.
   
   
4. Love your country and question your leaders, be active in your community. Do not fear your governement, they should fear you. If you believe in something, stand up and fight for it. If not, dont sit around and complain while you do nothing to change it.
   
   
5. Love yourself. If you dont care about yourself, dont expect anyone else too. You have problems, so does everyone else. Dont get so caught up in self image. I used to be vain, scars have tought be humility. Now I realize, appearance doesnt matter, but dont be a slob.
   
   
6. Dont take things too seriously and remember that people make mistakes. Forgiving people is not for their benifit, its for yours.
   
   
7. This one is important and goes with number 6. Forgive yourself. I have done horrible things in my life. Until I was able to fogive myself, I was not able to function properly. It takes time and effort, but let it go. The past can not be undone, learn from it and be the best you can be now.
   
   
8. And finally, and most importantly, love your family. Dont let petty things in the way. I would die and kill for mine, they are all I have, and I wouldnt trade them for anything.

Well, enough preaching, but I hope my words can help some young people, though I know it wont. Most of us have to learn the hard way, I know I did. If I could go back, I would do things differently, but dont mistake that for regret. I lived for years with regret and guilt, it gets you no where.

Welcome to the family Lapetus.Im the kind of person that had problems in my life...my friends tried to help me but it never seemed to work till I found out they can't keep helping me out and stuff.When I read this it kinda reminded me of it.I still have some problems but I ignore them, there just keeping me away from my friends in real life and stuff.
